Child Custody

Child custody is one of the main issues that cause a divorce to drag on and last months and even years.

Our family law attorneys can prove invaluable in child custody cases as they are more often than not complex. Both parents have a right to custody and visitation but when the parties cannot agree on the terms a custody suit must be filed so that a judge can decide what is in the best interest of the child(ren). Child custody cases range from simple cases where the parents agree to terms and simply want a legal document solidifying that agreement to complex cases where parties are unable to communicate with one another and/or there are issues such as domestic violence and child abuse.

While it is possible for parties to represent themselves in a custody case it is not advised. Often times parties in a divorce or custody proceeding make accusations against the other in order to gain custody of the minor children. Custody cases like this can require things such as child welfare investigations, forensic evaluations, home visits, school visits and investigations, inquiries into your child’s health records and more. The mishandling of any of these items can have disastrous results.  Misrepresentation can lead to losing custody and decision making power for your children. Our family law attorneys are skilled and experienced and can use those skills and experience to make sure that you get the outcome you desire.
